About Our Athletes There are a fantastic group of registered athletes in Pembroke participating in sport clubs year round. The health benefits individuals receive from sport and recreation programs are widely known. Participation in physical activity promotes balance, co-ordination, body control and improves total physical fitness.
Athlete Eligibility. Is Special Olympics For Everyone? In order to be eligible for participation in Special Olympics, an individual with an intellectual disability must agree to observe and abide by the SOC Sports Rules and the Special Olympics Ontario Code of Conduct. Individuals of all ages and all abilities can train and compete in Special Olympics. Athletes train and compete against athletes of similar ability level.

How To Register As An Athlete? After viewing the Sports page of this website, determine the sport in which you would like to participate. Once you have identified that, simply contact the Athlete Registrar to confirm space is available, then download the form or complete the registration online. How Old Do I Have To Be To Join PSO? Throughout the year, athletes of all ages, young and old, participate in weekly training programs in local facilities. The traditional minimum age for athletes to participate in Special Olympics is eight. There are some programs that target a younger ages. (We are currently not running any) What Is the Cost? What If I Can’t Afford It? There is usually a small cost (which varies by sport club) to participate. There is am overall yearly registration fee of 25 dollars and some sports have a weekly fee for the facility - such as bowling 7 dollars , swimming 2 dollars NO ATHLETE SHALL EVER BE DENIED THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE IN WEEKLY TRAINING OR COMPETITION OPPORTUNITIES BASED ON LACK OF FINANCIAL RESOURCES. |
